One of the main targets the the dumbing down complaint will often be RPGs. Hence why I am just clearing up what I define as dumbing down before getting to the crux of my argument. Especially since it is used as a negative in an effort to show disapproval with changes in general. Lowering the bar of entry has cost many projects their gameplay depth, however what games and and how bad that was is ultimately a subjective thing.
